Diaphragm Seals

Challenges of Pressure Measurement. Managing Pressure measurement of Tough media that are having extremes of Temperature, Corrosive or Abrasive or in a cramped space with challenges to mount the measuring unit becomes tedious. Here comes the solution. Diaphragm seals, also known as remote seals, are used for pressure measurements to manage these challenges.  A diaphragm seal isolates measuring instrument from the process medium while transferring the pressure to the measuring instrument. The process side of the seal is isolated by a flexible diaphragm. The internal space between this diaphragm and the pressure measuring instrument is filled with a system fill fluid. The pressure is transmitted from the measured medium by the elastic diaphragm into the fluid and from there to the measuring element. Between the diaphragm seal and pressure measuring instrument, a capillary is connected  to minimise temperature effects in case of applications involving hot or cold medi...

Energy Efficient Heat Pumps

Heat Pumps - Slash your process Heating Bills by 50%. Heat pump is a device which is used to transfer heat energy from one place to another. Heat pump consists of four major components, namely, condenser, expansion valve, evaporator, and compressor, while refrigerant being the heat transfer media. Heat pumps usually can be used either in heating mode or cooling mode. When a heat pump is used for heating, it employs the same basic refrigeration-type cycle used by an air conditioner, but in the opposite direction – releasing heat into the conditioned space rather than the surrounding environment.  Heat pumps are increasingly used to heat water for Domestic, Commercial and Industrial applications. Through improvements in compressor operation and choice of refrigerants Heat Pump manufacturers are able to offer solutions up to 85°C process temperatures. Automotive manufacturing industry use Hot water for surface treatment and coating, paint spray booths, washing, rinsing etc...

Measuring Altitude..

Flying High ?...........At what Altitude ? You can find the Altitude by measuring pressure. Interesting ...? Read to know more.. Atmospheric pressure is caused by the gravitational attraction of the planet on the atmospheric gases above the surface. The standard atmospheric pressure or Barometric pressure at sea level on the Earth is 1013.25 mBar or 760mmHg. Pressure on Earth varies with the altitude of the surface. Atmospheric pressure decreases smoothly as the altitude increases. Altimeters measures absolute pressure to indicate the Altitude. At this point it's important to understand the difference between Absolute pressure and Gauge pressure. Absolute pressure uses absolute zero as its zero point, while gauge pressure uses atmospheric pressure as its zero point. Clear ? Due to varying atmospheric pressure, gauge pressure measurement is not precise, while absolute pressure is always definite. Hence for applications like Aerospace, Flight Instrumentation or Vacuu...

Pressure Calibration without a Hand Pump

Are you still using Hand Pumps for Pressure Calibration ? There are lot of challenges when using a Handpump for generation of Pressure for Calibration Purpose. Pumping a large volume of media and precise adjustment of the generated pressure to required value is cumbersome and time consuming. Non availability of good quality hose or precise pressure adaptor may add further problems in the form of leakage. It's time you change the methodology of your pressure calibration. Precision pressure controllers are available which can quickly generate desired pressure accurate enough to test and calibrate present day smart transmitters at the touch of a button in seconds. Automatic increase or decrease of pressure enabling a 5 point calibration allows multiple calibration in the shortest span of time. Enormous calibration during shutdown becomes an easy task with Digital Pressure controller. Minor leakage is compensated unlike a hand pump. Calibration Softwares are available th...

Tungsten Carbide Thermowells

Tungsten Carbide Thermowells in Challenging Temperature measurement Applications. Thermowells are used extensively throughout the Power, Process and Petrochemical industries to protect the sensors from the process fluid and to enable servicing, or replacement, of sensors without the need for plant shut down. Tungsten carbide contains equal parts of tungsten and carbon atoms as a fine gray powder, pressed and formed into shapes through a process called sintering for use in industrial machinery, cutting tools, abrasives etc. These thermowells are ideally suited for use in very abrasive environment such as in air preheaters & coal mills of coal based power plants, mill classifier, pulveriser outlet, steam generation units, for temperature measurement of coal and air mixture. In its monocarbide form, tungsten carbide is hardest and its impact resistance, toughness, and resistance to galling/abrasions/erosions are exceptional, lasting up to 100 times longer than steel in...

Why Electromagnetic Flowmeter?

Why Electromagnetic Flow meters are so popular and preferable among all flow measurements? Electromagnetic flow meters detect flow by using Faraday's Law of induction. Electromagnetic flow meter does not leave any obstructions in the pipe, so they can be used for measuring heavy suspensions, including mud, sewage, wood pulp etc. Obstructionless and choice of liners with abrasion and erosion resistance properties make it suitable for Sewage, Waste Water, Chemicals, Slurries etc. Electromagnetic flow meters are very well recommended for food grade applications like Juices, Milk, Municipal or Industrial Water etc. There is no pressure head loss resulting in Energy savings. They are practically unaffected by variation in density, viscosity, pressure, temperature and upstream flow disturbances. And more importantly its Economical, Bi-directional, No moving parts and hence no wear and tear and hence Long Life. Only criteria is liquid should be Conductive. Let us know ...

Corrosion Monitoring to save Plant Assets

Monitoring Corrosion to avoid potential disaster.. Loss of weight, the alteration of physical, chemical, electrical, magnetic or mechanical properties, loss of integrity of components etc. are some of the damages that occur due to corrosion. Corrosion Monitoring becomes important in Plant and Pipelines that are induced by atmospheric rusting, chemical solution, oxidation, crystallization, galvanic coupling reactions, etc.,  While Corrosion coupons Weight loss is the basic monitoring, other methods include corrosion rate Electrical resistance (ER), Linear polarization resistance (LPR) etc. Implementing a good corrosion monitoring method helps in predicting corrosion damage, and allows timely corrective action like improving corrosion inhibitors. Life of Bearing

Life of Bearing depends on Loading. Static loads have constant magnitude and direction where as dynamic loads, vary in both magnitude and direction. Misalignment is an important source of excessive static load. Belt drive is another source of static load. Rotor malfunctions, Unbalance, rub, or aerodynamic or fluid-induced instability can produce excessive dynamic loads. Coupling malfunctions may introduce excessive static and dynamic loads. Portable Vibration Analyzers or Online Vibration monitoring systems can help in identifying faults that can be caused due to overloads well in advance facilitating predictive maintenance.

Things to know about Hazardous Area classification

Working Safely in Hazardous Area. The basics that you need to know... Area classification is a method of analysing and classifying the environment where explosive gas atmospheres may occur. The main purpose is to facilitate the proper selection and installation of apparatus to be used safely in that environment, taking into account the properties of the flammable materials that will be present. Hazardous areas are classified into zones based on an assessment of the frequency of the occurrence and duration of an explosive gas atmosphere, as follows: Zone 0: An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is present continuously or for long periods; Zone 1: An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is likely to occur in normal operation; Zone 2: An area in which an explosive gas atmosphere is not likely to occur in normal operation and, if it occurs, will only exist for a short time.
